HIKES

Red Rock Canyon: On Monday, a moderate 3-4-mile hike with some rock scrambling at the First Creek trail. On Tuesday, a strenuous 9-mile hike at Blue Diamond Hill. On Wednesday, a 3-mile moderate hike with some scrambling at Keystone Thrust. On Thursday, a strenuous 3-mile hike with scrambling at South Fossil Ridge. On Friday, an easy 2.5-mile hike around the Moenkopi Loop Trail. Also Friday, part two of the Grand Circle hike. This section is five miles. Saturday, a 1/2-mile easy hike at Corn Creek Spring. Also Saturday, a moderate 3-mile hike from Lost Creek to White Rock (515-5367).

Around the Bend Friends: This group of people over 50, interested in hiking and related social activities, plans a three- to four-hour moderate hike each Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. To learn more about the group and the meeting place for the hike, contact 228-0773, or the club's Web site: www. aroundthebendfriends.com

OTHER PROGRAMS

Red Rock Canyon: On Tuesday, an art class for those ages 10 and up is scheduled. No experience is necessary and all supplies are included. Also Tuesday, a 20-minute talk at the visitor center on the geology of Red Rock Canyon, ongoing between 1-3 p.m. On Friday, a program for 3-8 year olds about tarantulas (515-5367).

Archaeo-Nevada Society along with the Bureau of Land Management invites volunteers to help with Red Rock Conservation projects. At 7 p.m. Thursday, Heidi Roberts will speak about the archaeology of Corn Creek Dunes at College of Southern Nevada, 6375 W. Charleston Blvd. Visit www.archaeonevada.org or call 254-7883.
