THE WATER COOLER

Here are a few things from news, entertainment and popular culture that we've been talking about lately.

• "Folies Bergere" closes after a 49-year run at the Tropicana. Sore-butted peacocks everywhere rejoice.

• Vince Shlomi, the pitchman in the ShamWow commercials, is arrested after an altercation that allegedly began when a prostitute bit his tongue and wouldn't let go. But the superabsorbent ShamWow soaked up every drop of the blood!

• Madame Tussaud's Las Vegas unveils a wax figure of Mayor Oscar Goodman. The most realistic feature is the eyes, which have the same glassy look the real Oscar's do after Martini No. 3.

• Bill O'Reilly says he won't see Sean Penn movies because of the actor's political views. No matter where you fall on the political spectrum, swearing off "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" forever is just crazy.

• A current photo of Charles Manson is released as members of his "family" continue to lobby for parole. Strange how, these days, Charlie looks pretty much like any other gray-haired, middle-age suburbanite with a swastika carved into his forehead.
