The Water Cooler

Here are a few things in news, sports, entertainment and popular culture that we've been talking about lately.

* President Barack Obama receives the Nobel Peace Prize. Obviously grading on a curve.

* The Freedom From Religion Foundation erects religion-unfriendly billboards across town. A futile effort, because nonatheists in foxholes have got nothing on I-15 commuters during rush hour.

* Rush Limbaugh fails in a bid to buy the NFL's St. Louis Rams. Unfortunate, because never again would a football in St. Louis have lacked hot air for inflation.

* Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte returns from a 10-day visit to the International Space Station. Somehow, zero gravity sucks all the coolness out of Cirque-style acrobatics.

* Miley Cyrus quits Twitter, explaining in a YouTube video that she wants her "private life private." And, like cavemen whose fire has suddenly gone out, 2 million Miley Twitter followers are paralyzed with the realization that they'll have to start living their own lives.
