Here are a few things in news, entertainment and pop culture that we've been talking about lately.

■ Budget problems force cancellation of the Nevada State Fair. Charging $125 for funnel cakes to make up the deficit just seemed wrong.

■ Charlie Sheen continues his streak o' crazy. Prompting lexicographers to feverishly search for an untainted synonym for "winning."

■ A former Pahrump Valley High School student faces criminal charges for allegedly hacking into the school's computer and changing grades for money. On the upside, he has a definite future on Wall Street.

■ Stephen King's next novel will be about the John F. Kennedy assassination. If Oswald turns out to be a zombie, this is going to be so infuriating.
