Clark County School Board gathers public input for superintendent search
The Clark County School Board needs to start searching for a new superintendent to run the nation’s fifth-largest school district, but it first wants to hear the public’s criteria for the new leader.
Sam King of the League of Women Voters of Nevada praised the effort to include the community in choosing a new leader for Clark County’s 357 public schools.
At a Tuesday meeting at Valley High School, King advocated hiring someone local. She also told board members not to cave in to outside pressures to choose favored candidates.
Parents and teachers also suggested the board go with local educators, such as interim Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky or Steve Augspurger, executive director of the Clark County Association of School Administrators and Professional-technical Employees.
Clark County School District officials have scheduled 14 public meetings through May 13. Those unable to attend can complete a superintendent survey at www.ccsd.net.

■ 5:30 p.m. today at Chaparral High School, Room 116, 3850 Annie Oakley Drive, Henderson.
■ 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Booker Elementary School, 2277 N. Martin Luther King Blvd.
■ 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Basic School, 400 Palo Verde Drive, Henderson.
■ 5:30 p.m. May 2 at Virgin Valley High School, 820 Valley View Drive, Mesquite.
■ Noon May 3 at Clark High School, 4291 W. Pennwood Ave.
■ 4 p.m. May 6 in the district’s Administrative Center, Room 242, 5100 W. Sahara Ave.
■ 5:30 p.m. May 7 at Rancho High School, 1900 Searles Ave.
■ 7 p.m. May 8 at Cimarron-Memorial High School, 2301 N. Tenaya Way.
■ 9:30 a.m. May 11 at Western High School, 4601 W. Bonanza Road.
■ 7 p.m. May 13 at Legacy High School, 150 W. Deer Springs Way.
