1 dead in northeast valley crash; DUI arrest made

A man facing DUI charges in a Saturday morning fatal crash ran a "solid" red light in the northeast valley wreck, Las Vegas police said.

Luis Lopez, 19, of Las Vegas, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center, police said in a news release. The 26-year-old man killed will be identified by the Clark County coroner's office.

Police and the Clark County Fire Department responded to the four-vehicle crash just before 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Lake Mead Boulevard and Mt. Hood Street, near North Hollywood Boulevard.

Lopez was traveling west on Lake Mead in a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado when police said he ran the red light at the intersection. The Silverado crashed into a 2006 Mustang and then into a 2014 Honda Odyssey. Debris from the crash hit a Chevrolet Impala.

The Mustang's driver died at the scene, police said. His passenger suffered serious injuries and was taken to University Medical Center, along with Lopez and the Odyssey's driver, who both suffered minor injuries.

Lopez, who police said showed "signs of alcohol impairment," was taken to jail after being being treated.
