Argument over left-behind items linked to fatal shooting, police say

Property left in a landlord's garage may have sparked a fatal shooting, Las Vegas police records suggest.

Devin Aluague, 17, is facing murder charges in connection with the Feb. 9 shooting death of Michael Guinn, 42. That afternoon, police responded to a home in the 2900 block of Kennewick Drive, near the intersection of East Vegas Valley Drive and South Mojave Road, to find Guinn had been shot in the chest.

Devin's arrest records say the homicide started as an argument over property Devin's aunt Jennifer Pearson abandoned at Guinn's home.

Pearson was living in Guinn's garage but had moved out because she couldn't pay rent, the arrest report said. Guinn had asked Pearson to remove the left-behind items so he could re-rent the space.

The two argued often over several weeks about the abandoned items, and Pearson enlisted Devin to move it on the day of the shooting.

Guinn and Pearson started arguing and Guinn yelled at Pearson as she drove away. Devin leaned out of the passenger side window and fired one shot at him, the arrest record said.

Devin is next due in court March 9. He is being charged as an adult and is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.
