Australian woman seriously hurt after being hit by car near Las Vegas Strip

A 20-year-old woman from Australia climbed a wall to cross Flamingo Road at the Strip when she was struck by a car early Monday, according to Las Vegas police.

First responders were called about 3:45 a.m., where the woman, identified as Brooke Baldwin, had been struck by a 2005 Kia sedan headed east on Flamingo.

Police said she was coming from the northeast corner of the intersection trying to cross eastbound lanes of Flamingo, outside a a crosswalk. That section of Flamingo has a an elevated pedestrian bridge.

Foot traffic is prohibited there, Metro said.

Baldwin was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the Kia, a 64-year-old man, was not hurt.

Flamingo was closed at the Strip about five hours. The crash remains under investigation.
