Blue Ribbon committee to detail ways to improve child welfare
March 25, 2015 - 5:50 pm
The Blue Ribbon Committee tasked with examining shortcomings in Clark County’s child welfare system and courts has a specific recommendation regarding crowding at the county’s emergency shelter for abused and neglected children.
That recommendation on Child Haven will be among a total of seven the committee will submit to Clark County commissioners and the Legislature, according to a Nevada Supreme Court news release.
The committee on Thursday will publish its final report titled “Moving Forward Together for Clark County’s Children,” which details the recommendations. The report’s release precedes the committee’s scheduled meeting at 1 p.m. Friday at the Regional Justice Center.
“This initial report outlines important recommendations for system change, which incorporates nationally recognized best practices and suggestions from system stakeholders and the public,” Committee Chairwoman Justice Nancy Saitta said in the release. “The many changes this report proposes are challenging and will require significant effort. However, I am confident these changes will be given a high priority.”
Saitta appointed the committee last fall.
