Clark County coroner identifies man stabbed to death in December

The man stabbed to death in a central valley apartment complex in December has been identified by the Clark County coroner.

Matthew James Anton, 19, was found suffering from a stab would at the Shelter Island Apartments, 3770 Swenson St., near Tropicana Avenue, just before 1 a.m. on Dec. 30, Metro Lt. David Gordon said.

Anton was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The coroner ruled his cause of death as a stab wound of the chest and his manner of death a homicide.

Gianni Raneri, 29, of Las Vegas, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center where he faces one charge of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon in connection with this crime. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.

Detectives found that Anton was walking through the complex with another person when they were approached by the suspect, Raneri, police said. After a brief argument, the parties separated, but the Raneri confronted Anton and the other individual once again several hours later. That was when Anton was stabbed.

Responding officers discovered that a security guard saw Raneri fleeing the scene, took him into custody a short distance away and turned him over to police.
