Dining Pick of the Week: Crazy Pita

PICK OF THE WEEK:
CRAZY PITA

2225 Village Walk Drive, The District

at Green Valley Ranch, 702-896-7482

Mehdi Zarhloul has built a loyal customer base because he has a knack for combining Moroccan spices that give his Mediterranean dishes a unique flavor. The most popular is rotisserie chicken marinated in a lemon and salt solution and served with hummus and feta salad. Pitas are filled with marinated tomatoes, cucumbers and romaine and include chicken, steak, shrimp, lamb, vegetarian and kefta (seasoned ground beef). Popular salads are Caesar, Mediterranean, Mezza (hummus, eggplant dip, roasted red bell peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, artichoke hearts, feta) and falafel. Add chicken, steak, lamb or shrimp to that salad. Among the sides are grapes leaves, lentil soup with chicken, roasted eggplant dip and vegetable couscous, that tasty dish of semolina (durum wheat) that is cooked by steaming. From the grill comes skewers (chicken, vegetable, steak tenderloin, shrimp, lamb, kefta) served with hummus, feta salad and vegetable couscous. And don’t forget the falafel made from ground dried fava and garbanzo beans. Surprise yourself with a side order of Mehdi’s french fries. Pitas begin at $7.95, and salads start at $7.25. Crazy Pita is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. — Jack Bulavsky
