UNLV’S BOYD LAW SCHOOL
RANKED 68TH IN NATIONAL LIST
The William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is ranked 68th in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of the top 194 accredited law schools.
It is the highest the Boyd School has ever placed, up eight spots from the previous year. It is the seventh consecutive year the school has ranked in the top 100.

COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN NEVADA
STARTS DOWNTOWN READING PROGRAM
The College of Southern Nevada’s literary journal, Red Rock Review, in collaboration with Open Air Printers, is scheduled to host the first in a series of reading events from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the print shop and gallery, 1039 S. Main St.
The free event is to feature CSN English professor Brett Riley reading from his recently published short story collection, “The Subtle Dance of Impulse and Light.”

THE ARTS FACTORY TO HOST
FUNDRAISER TO BENEFIT STUDENTS
The Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd., plans to host a Couture for Causes fundraiser from noon to 4 p.m. April 28 to benefit Communities in Schools of Nevada.
Donated designer clothing will be sold to benefit Communities in Schools of Nevada, a nonprofit organization. The event also will have live entertainment, appetizers and kids’ activities.
Communities in Schools of Nevada provides medical and dental care, counseling, food, clothing, tutoring and more for nearly 25,000 students at more than 40 schools in Southern Nevada.

DARNELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
OFFERS FULL-DAY KINDERGARTEN
Darnell Elementary School, 9480 W. Tropical Parkway, is offering registration through April 30 for its full-day, tuition-based kindergarten for the 2013-14 school year. SIGN-UPS BEING TAKEN FOR ADULT
NATURE EDUCATION COURSE
The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, 8050 Paradise Road, Suite 105, is offering its Nevada Naturalist program to teach adults about Southern Nevada’s natural resources.
Participants will study the environmental issues, laws and regulations, ecology, plants, animals, conservation projects and more.
The course is scheduled from Monday through June 1. Students will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and attend field trips Saturdays at various times and locations.

LAS VEGAS WRANGLERS DONATE TO HELP HOMELESS STUDENTS
Project 150, a nonprofit organization that helps homeless and disadvantaged students at 15 local high schools, raised $2,000 from ticket proceeds and donations during a March 2 Las Vegas Wranglers hockey game.

UNLV OFFERS RE-ENTRY SCHOLARSHIPS
The Division of Educational Outreach at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is offering scholarships to nontraditional students of up to $2,500. UNLV’s Community2Campus program will administer 10 to 15 scholarships in various categories for students returning to college after an extended interruption.
The application deadline for the 2013-14 academic year is April 12. Awards for the fall and spring semesters will be selected. Applications are available at edoutreach.unlv.edu/community2campus.

FOR AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Donald J Pliner at the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace plans to host a fundraiser from 3 to 6 p.m. April 6 to benefit After-School All-Stars Las Vegas, a nonprofit organization that provides free after-school programs to at-risk students. For those three hours, 10 percent of sales will be donated to the nonprofit. There will also be a raffle, cocktails and appetizers.

PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR UNLV STUDY
on post-traumatic stress disorder
Researchers at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas are seeking participants for a research study on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The aim is to examine the role of stress hormones in combat-related PTSD in women.
Women between ages 18 and 35 who have served on active military duty within the past five years may be eligible to participate. Participants will be asked to fill out questionnaires, complete a brief interview and provide saliva samples for measurement of stress-related hormones. All participants are eligible to receive free counseling.
The study is supervised by principal investigator Dr. Laurel Pritchard.

AUTISM CENTER AT UNLV OFFERS GRANT
TO COVER ASSESSMENT OF DISORDERS
The Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is offering a free assessment to one local family whose child may have Asperger Syndrome or high-functioning autism but is unable to afford assessment services. Comprehensive testing services for children and adults usually are available to the public on a sliding fee scale.
Families can apply for the Bern and Howard Linker grant to cover the assessment services by April 2. The winner will be drawn by lottery April 3, and the assessment will begin in mid-April.

NEUROPSYCHOLOGY PROGRAM LOOKING FOR RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Neuropsychology Research Program is looking for participants for an ongoing study on bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. The research team at UNLV hopes to gain an understanding into cognitive and behavioral processes associated with daily function in order to learn about the neural mechanisms associated with severe mental illness and improve treatment interventions. Participants will be asked to do a variety of tests that will take approximately five hours and will be compensated $10 per hour.

LAS VEGAS ACADEMY ALUMNI CELEBRATION SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

HOSPITAL DISPLAYS STUDENT ARTWORK
The St. Rose Dominican Hospitals Siena Campus, 3001 St. Rose Parkway, has a children’s art gallery in the third-floor lobby that features student art from Brown Junior High School, 307 N. Cannes St. The gallery, Impressions at Siena, is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and admission is free.
The gallery features 32 pieces of art made by Brown students using charcoal, oil and pastels. They are scheduled to be on display through April 25. The hospital plans to rotate student exhibits among schools.

STUDENTS TO PERFORM APRIL 14
WITH HENDERSON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Several Clark County School District students are scheduled to perform with the Henderson Symphony Orchestra in the Young Artists Concert at 2 p.m. April 14 at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway. Admission to the concert is free.
Students from across the valley auditioned for the concert, which is in its 18th year.

Couture for Causes is planned from noon to 4 p.m. April 14 at Tivoli Village, 302 S. Rampart Blvd. Enjoy a family-friendly afternoon shopping soiree. Designer clothing has been donated by Las Vegas residents and high-class boutiques, and items will be resold to benefit the education nonprofit group Communities In Schools of Nevada.
Live entertainment, activities for children, small bites and libations will be provided.
