Literary Las Vegas: Beverly A. Crandall

Las Vegas author Beverly A. Crandall, a journalism graduate from Michigan State University, worked as an editor at the Detroit Free Press and as a Washington correspondent for the Detroit News. Later, she was a copy editor on the national desk of the New York Times. But it wasn't her love for journalism that inspired her recent book. It was a passion for pooches."Writings by Ben the Wonder Dog: A Rescue Pup's Path to Happiness" introduces a rescued Jack Russell poodle mix who records his adventures with Mom (Crandall's daughter) and Granny (Crandall) on his own little laptop. When Ben isn’'t listening to "Who Let the Dogs Out" on his iPod, he is zipping around in Mom's convertible or bounding into bed at Camp Granny.
Excerpt:
You should see the acrobatic way I jump onto Mom's or Granny's bed. The bed is a lot taller than me. So I have to get a running start well before I reach the open doorway and then — whoosh — I'm through the air and — plop — onto the bed. It's even better when I have a toy in my teeth for the ride. This is a leap of four or five feet, pretty good for a little guy, right? I never miss.
