The Rainbow Company Youth Theatre plans to open its 36th season with the musical "Tom Sawyer" at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Oct. 12 and 13 and at 2 p.m. Sunday and Oct. 13 and 14 at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. The city of Las Vegas and the Original German American Social Club of Nevada plan to host an Oktoberfest featuring German music, dance, food, beer and children's activities from 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. The "Batman Live" world arena tour is scheduled to visit the Thomas & Mack Center, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway, Wednesday through Sunday. Tickets range from $19 to $79.95. Chapter AI plans a 1940-themed Sentimental Journey fashion show and tea at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mesquite Club, 702 E. St. Louis Ave. Entertainment will include big band tunes with a vocalist. There will be a running narration with some little-known facts about early war years. Handmade quilts and other memorabilia will be available for purchase. Admission is $25. The first full weekend of every month, Bank of America cardholders receive free admission to museums and attractions nationwide. Local attractions participating include: the Springs Preserve, the Lied Discovery Children's Museum and the Las Vegas Natural History Museum. Wings over the Springs is back at the Springs Preserve with owls, falcons, hawks and ravens flying overhead in two live shows at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. weekends and select school holidays through Feb. 24. New to the show are the Harris hawk, peregrine falcon, yellow vulture, African augur buzzard, common buzzard and a pair of yellow-billed black kites native to Southern Africa and the Middle East. The two female kites are said to be the only members of this species in the U.S. The flight shows are free with Springs Preserve membership or paid admission. Kids can spend some time hanging out in the trees at the touring "Tree House: Look Who's Living in the Trees" exhibit scheduled to be on display through Jan. 14 on the second floor of the Lied Discovery Children's Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The exhibit includes a tree house kids can explore, 3-D images of animals living in trees, an animal dance floor where kids can try to identify animal sounds and a computer forest game where children can harvest trees without harming wildlife. The museum also plans to showcase the exhibit "Torn From Home: My Life as a Refugee" through Dec. 16. The exhibit features photographs and interactive elements depicting refugee families from Columbia, Afghanistan, Republic of Congo and more. Visit ldcm.org.

Worth a Drive

The Las Vegas Ballet Company plans to present "Giselle Act II" at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Nicholas J. Horn Theatre on the College of Southern Nevada's Cheyenne campus, 3200 E. New country music fest coming to Vegas

Saddle up Vegas country fans, a new fest is riding into town this fall. The Giddy Up Music Festival will be city’s first country fest since 1 October.
