Ex-deputy AG arrested on drug charges in Nye County

A former deputy attorney general was arrested on drug-selling charges after a monthlong investigation in Pahrump on Saturday, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday.

Timothy Ryan Treffinger, 28, used to prosecute criminal cases in Nye, Mineral and Esmeralda counties, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Treffinger is accused of maintaining a house where drugs were sold and used.

Another man, Jesse James Lewis, 36, was arrested on drug-possession charges, while police are looking for Treffinger’s fiancee, Jennifer Marsden, of Pahrump, for questioning in the case, the Sheriff’s Office said

Pahrump deputies, detectives and a SWAT team served a warrant on 5841 East Alfano Ave., about 60 miles west of Las Vegas. Police said they found heroin and other drug paraphernalia. Both men were arrested there.

Treffinger and Lewis are facing charges that include possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia, the Sheriff’s Office said. Treffinger was additionally charged with maintaining a residence for the sale and use of drugs while Lewis was also charged with trying to hide drugs and being under the influence of drugs.

Treffinger attended the University of New Hampshire School of Law where he graduated in 2013, according to a university website. He went to high school in New Jersey and was an undergraduate in New Orleans.

“With the practical experience I gained here, I feel fully prepared to begin my professional career,” Treffinger told the University of New Hampshire for his online profile.

Both men were booked into the Nye County Detention Center where their bail was set about $13,000 for Lewis and $16,000 for Treffinger.
