Fire damages apartment complex in west valley

A fire caused an estimated $250,000 in damage at a west Las Vegas Valley apartment complex on Saturday.

The fire damaged three units and displaced eight to 10 residents of the Resort at the Lakes apartment complex at 9999 Katie Ave., near Hualapai Way and the Las Vegas Beltway.

Clark County spokeswoman Stacey Welling said the blaze started in one unit about 3 p.m. and spread to the attic. That unit was heavily damaged. Two other units sustained smoke and water damage.

Clark County firefighters assisted by the Las Vegas Fire Department battled the blaze. Some of the displaced residents will relocate within the complex, Welling said. The American Red Cross is providing aid.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
