Henderson revises rental fees for park specialty areas

Those who wish to reserve a dog park or equestrian park in Henderson may soon do so — for a fee.

A revised rental fee schedule for parks and amenities was approved Tuesday by the Henderson City Council. The schedule now includes rates for specialty areas such as dog and equestrian parks. It also reduces the minimum reservation period from five hours to two hours.

“We were finding that most people were not utilizing facilities for the full five hours,” said Mary Ellen Donner, Henderson’s parks and recreation director. “By having a two-hour minimum, we are now able to serve more people.”

The new rates and reservation hours go into effect July 1.

Under the new fee schedule, users may pay $25 an hour to rent Equestrian Park North, 1350 Richard Bunker Ave., for up to 200 people. The rental also requires a refundable $200 cleaning/repair deposit.

Rental fees and deposits are higher for larger groups.

Dog parks may be rented for $10 an hour, with a $50 deposit, under the new fee schedule.

The schedule also has a new $50 fee for alcohol permits.

Small picnic areas may be reserved for $10 an hour with a $50 deposit. Larger picnic areas have higher rental rates.

Grassy areas also may be rented by the hour. For example, a grassy area that is 5,000 square feet or larger may be rented for $100 an hour with a $250 deposit.

The new fee schedule also includes rental rates for specialty areas at newly built parks, such as the catering kitchen at the soon-to-open Cornerstone Park, 1600 Wigwam Parkway.

Cornerstone Park has two shaded pavilions designed for large events such as corporate picnics or weddings. The park’s catering kitchen may be rented for $100 an hour with a $300 deposit.

Other fees have been added for specialty areas at the new Whitney Mesa Recreation Area, 1661 Galleria Drive.

Armijo’s Camp may be rented for a daily fee of $3 a person for day use or $5 a person for overnight use. The nearby archery area may be rented for $10 an hour. Rentals for the camp and archery area also require deposits.
