November 21, 2012 - 2:51 pm
Volunteers and donations are needed for Project Homeless Connect, which helps Southern Nevada's homeless with housing, food, job training, health care, substance abuse treatment and mental health counseling, among other services.
More than 700 volunteers are needed to help check in and escort individuals around the free event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 6, at Cashman Center, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Volunteers will need to arrive by 7 a.m. and stay until 4 p.m. For more information about volunteering, call 702-892-2300 or visit helphopehome.org.
Monetary donations, bus passes, bottled water and nonperishable food, among other items, are also needed. For more information about donating, call the Nevada Homeless Alliance at 702-743-1487.
Last year's event helped more than 3,000 homeless people get food, clothing, grooming, housing, transportation and other resources. According to a 2011 homeless census, more than 9,400 homeless people stay in Clark County shelters or sleep on the streets.
