Homeowners save dogs from Henderson fire

Two people were hospitalized after saving their family dogs from a fire in their Henderson home Thursday night, according to a news release.

The homeowners discovered the fire about 10:15 p.m. in the 800 block of Sandsprings Street, near Lake Mead Parkway and Olsen Street. They initially ran out but went back in to save their two dogs, Henderson spokeswoman Kathleen Richards said.

Heavy fire and smoke were coming from the garage of the two-story home by the time firefighters arrived. The fire spread to the main body of the home and attic space, the release stated.

Fire crews made an offensive attack by accessing the garage and home's interior to put the fire out.

The two homeowners were taken to University Medical Center for smoke inhalation. The dogs or fire crews were not injured.

The fire was ruled accidental in nature and the total loss was estimated at $250,000.
