I-15 near Cheyenne reopens after teen jumps from pedestrian bridge

Interstate 15 near Cheyenne Avenue closed for about an hour Tuesday after a teenager threatening suicide fell from a pedestrian bridge.

The 16-year-old girl who jumped was not seriously hurt, according to North Las Vegas police, who responded along with the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Police were called after the girl was spotted walking on Carey Avenue over the 15 shortly before 6:30 a.m., NHP spokeswoman Chelsea Stuenkel said.

The freeway was shut down while North Las Vegas police negotiators talked with the girl, whom NHP described as “suicidal.”

Officers and NHP troopers trying to communicate with the girl grabbed her as she jumped, police said. After struggling to get away, she unzipped her sweater and fell.

The girl was taken to University Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.
