Inmate convicted of murder in Clark County dies

A Nevada inmate serving a life sentence for murder in the 1970s died on Tuesday, the Nevada Department of Corrections announced on Friday.

James Taylor, 69, died at Carson Tahoe Hospital and was incarcerated at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center, a press release said.

Taylor was jailed for the 1972 murder of Vicki Price, a 19-year-old whose naked body was found under a mattress in a mine shaft three days after her disappearance from Friendly Fergie’s Casino on Sahara Avenue, police said at the time.

The case prompted two mistrials due to death threats to jurors and witnesses before Taylor was convicted.

Taylor has been serving a life sentence for first-degree murder in Clark County since 1975.
