Inmate dies at Henderson Detention Center

A 48-year-old man died while being held at the Henderson Detention Center early Wednesday, a city spokeswoman said.

The “grossly obese” man suffered a medical episode just before 7:30 a.m., Henderson spokeswoman Kathleen Richards said. Paramedics were unable to revive the man, whose weight was estimated at over 400 pounds.

He was pronounced dead at the booking center, Richards said.

The man was taken to the jail about 2 p.m. Tuesday and was being kept on a parole and probation hold, Richards said.

His name and cause of death will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office after his family has been notified.
