Las Vegas officer saves homeless woman from fire

A Las Vegas police officer pulled a woman from a fire early Thursday morning.

According to police, the officer was on patrol in the area of Adams and F streets when he noticed a warming fire under the carport of a vacant house. A homeless woman was lying under a bundle of blankets next to it. Winds were pushing the flames from the warming fire against the exterior walls of the house.

The officer managed to pull the woman, who reportedly appeared to be intoxicated, away from the home before she suffered any injuries.

The officer returned and tried to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher, but it spread and became too intense to put out.

Firefighters responded shortly after 4 a.m. to the call and were able to extinguish the fire in approximately 10 minutes, officials said.

The home appeared to be vacant, with bars on the windows and doors and debris scattered throughout the house.

Damage from the fire was estimated at $40,000.
