Man in Vegas street race hurt in collision

A man was seriously injured after several vehicles caused a crash while racing in the east valley Saturday afternoon, Las Vegas police said.

The crash happened just before 1:30 p.m. on Sahara Avenue near Nellis Boulevard.

Investigators said it appears a black Mazda, a silver Mazda and a red Nissan were racing on Sahara when the black Mazda clipped the side of the silver Mazda.

The silver car spun out, hit another vehicle and caused the black Mazda to roll over. The driver from the black Mazda was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries.

A fourth vehicle was involved in the crash but was not reported to be racing.

Metro was not yet finished with the investigation as of 10 p.m. Saturday and it was unknown if any of the drivers would be charged.
