Man killed in southeast Las Vegas shooting was trespassing, police say
A man who police said was trespassing at a vacant southeast valley house Thursday was fatally shot in the back by one of the property's managers, the coroner's office said Friday.
Two of the house's property managers, a man and a woman, were first called to the East Viking Road house after a locksmith hired to prepare the property for rental said someone may have broken in, police said. As the pair investigated, the male manager, who had a concealed weapons permit, found Victor Lamar Jones, 27, in the backyard and drew his gun.
Police said Jones attacked that manager and was shot in the back during the fight. The property managers then called police and stayed at the scene.
Jones was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died less than an hour later.
His death marks the 26th homicide investigated by Las Vegas police this year.
