Man struck by car while riding scooter in Henderson dies

An elderly man who was struck by a car in Henderson this past week while driving a motorized scooter has died.

Henderson police said Gordon Bennett, 82, was driving a 2010 Honda Elite scooter south on Boulder Highway, near Greenway Road, when he tried to merge into the left lane about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

A car was in the left lane, however, and Bennett drove back into the right lane. But Bennett’s scooter struck the side of a 2011 Toyota Camry attempting to pass him, police said.

Bennett fell from the scooter. He was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

The 65-year-old driver of the Camry was not hurt. Police said she didn’t appear to be intoxicated, and a preliminary investigation showed speed wasn’t a factor.

This is the fourth traffic-related death in Henderson this year.
