Motorcyclist killed Thursday night ID’d

A motorcyclist killed in a central valley crash Thursday night has been identified by the Clark County coroner.

Cristian Felipe Mamian-Melo, 19, of Las Vegas lost his life when the 18-year-old driver of a 2005 Nissan Altima turned into his 1994 Honda motorcycle's path just before 8 p.m., police said in a release.

Mamian-Melo, who the Department of Motor Vehicles said did not have a motorcycle license, was riding his motorcycle west on Washington Avenue near Smith Street when the driver of the Nissan attempted to make a left turn from a stop sign on Smith and entered the Honda's path, police said.

The impact caused Mamian-Melo's bike to overturn and slide into the driver's side of the Nissan, according to the release.

Mamian-Melo was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene with a minor injury, the release said.

This is the 16th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction for 2016.
