New hardware causing slow credit card transactions at post offices
Some U.S. Postal Service offices are experiencing a system outage that may prompt customers expecting to pay with their credit cards to pack some cash.
Outages, which are affecting most retail services, are more sporadic than nationwide, Postal Service spokesman David Rupert said. New hardware that was installed Thursday seems to be causing the technical issues, including slowing credit card transactions.
Hacking didn’t play a role in the slowdown, Rupert said.
Problems in the Las Vegas Valley hadn’t been reported, Rupert said.
Some valley customers reported waits, however.
Regular mail delivery and tracking and shipping services are not affected, Rupert said.
The agency announced on Twitter about 7:05 a.m. Friday that services were expected to return later in the day.
