No threat found in Creech Air Force Base bomb scare

A perceived bomb scare closed U.S. Highway 95 near Creech Air Force Base for about an hour Tuesday afternoon, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

A van approached the front gates of the base about 1 p.m. Tuesday, NDOT spokesman Tony Illia said. The driver did not have proper documentation to enter the base and was uncooperative with the guards at the gate, Illia said.

When bomb-sniffing dogs were brought to the van, they “went off” and base staff immediately established a 1,000-yard perimeter, which overlapped with the U.S. 95, Illia said.

Base officials deployed bomb robots and the appropriate personnel, who searched the van and found no threat.

Traffic in both directions on U.S. 95, from state Route 160 to the Snow Mountain interchange, was rerouted around the perimeter until just before 2 p.m., NDOT tweeted.
