Pedestrian critically injured in central valley crash

Las Vegas police are investigating a crash involving a 2013 Toyota Camry and a pedestrian near Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Las Vegas police said.

Police were called at 5:41 p.m. Monday to the intersection of Desert Inn Road and Aztec Way, near South Maryland Parkway, the department's traffic site showed.

The pedestrian, Josbany Borrego, 27, was critically injured in the crash and was taken to Sunrise Hospital's trauma center, according to Las Vegas police. Earlier reports had indicated the person had died.

The driver, Minelba Esau, 63, of Las Vegas remained at the scene. Neither the driver nor her passenger, Stephen Esau, 62, also of Las Vegas, were injured.

Police said a witness statement and evidence at the scene indicates the pedestrian who was walking east on the north sidewalk of Desert Inn stepped off the sidewalk and into the path of the Camry, which was heading west on Desert Inn. The accident remains under investigation.
