Sister mourns brother killed in central valley shooting

As homicide detectives work to unravel the events behind the shooting death of Rodney Primm, loved ones are mourning the loss of a man they called outgoing and friendly.

“He’s my big brother,” Rachelle Primm, 42, of Las Vegas said. “He was always there for everybody.”

Primm described her brother as an all-around good guy, who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, court records show Rodney Primm, 43, had a criminal history, including convictions for weapons and attempted murder charges in the mid-90s. He was arrested on drug-related charges at least four times since 2008.

Primm was found shot to death Monday night in an apartment in the 700 block of Jackson Avenue near the intersection at H Street, police said.

An initial investigation showed the shooting stemmed from an argument between multiple people who were inside the apartment. Witnesses heard several gunshots, police said.

Rochelle Primm said she doesn’t know what her brother was doing in that apartment, and the police are still working the case. But she wouldn’t believe any theories that her brother was up to no good that night.

“He’s never been the type to steal anything from anyone,” she said. “Everybody that I talk to says the same thing. It’s not in his character.”

Her sister, Sharon, died from breast cancer on the same day nine years ago, which magnifies the family’s grief.

No suspects have been identified in connection with the shooting, and the motive in the shooting remains unknown, police said in a release Tuesday.

Two men and a woman were seen leaving the apartment by witnesses, police said. They have not been identified by police and no arrests have been reported.

At least one of the people involved drove away in Rodney Primm’s car. Officers found the vehicle abandoned in the 2200 block of West Bonanza Road, less than 2 miles from the apartment complex where he was killed, police said.

Memorial services had not been planned as of Tuesday night.
