‘Supermoon’ returns to skies Sunday
August 10, 2014 - 11:07 pm
If you’re up late Sunday evening, head outside and take a look at the moon — it may look bigger and brighter than usual.
Sunday marks the second this summer of three full moons that occur on a specific portion of the moon’s orbit, earning it the nickname “Supermoon.”
According to NASA, the moon will be 14 percent closer to Earth and about 30 percent brighter than a normal full moon. The first occurrence was July 12 and the next one will be Sept. 9.
