Two schools placed in lockdown after burglary suspect ran from police

A man who ran from police prompted two Clark County School District schools to be placed on lockdown Monday afternoon near Tropical Parkway and Commerce Street, North Las Vegas police said.

The man, who was suspected in a burglary, was able to get away, police spokesman officer Aaron Patty said. It is not unusual for schools to be placed on lockdown when there is police activity in the area.

The lockdown of Findlay Middle and Watson Elementary schools was lifted at 2:10 p.m., before classes were out for the day, Clark County School District spokeswoman Melinda Malone said.

Police were dispatched to the robbery at 12:30 p.m., Patty said. The perimeter was lifted about an hour later.

More information on the burglary was not immediately available.
