Vegas woman charged with killing ex-husband in their home

Thanksgiving was anything but joyful in one west Las Vegas home, where a living arrangement between ex-spouses ended abruptly in gunfire.

Henry Gregory Bankey, 58, was dead, shot in the chest. His former wife and current housemate, Michelle Young, 53, is in the Clark County Detention Center, facing a murder charge.

Police said the two argued, but were separated by a family member, at 4:13 a.m. at their home at 8305 Fullmoon Maple Avenue, near the intersection of Sahara Avenue and Durango Drive. Minutes later, Bankey was dead. The family called police, and Young was arrested without incident, police said.

Bankey was president and CEO of a solar panel company, Summerlin Energy LLC, according to his LinkedIn profile.

In 2007, he faced criminal charges in Utah linked to another company where he was an executive. According to the U.S Justice Department, Bankey was one of seven people indicted on multiple federal felony charges in Salt Lake City, including racketeering, bank fraud and money laundering.

Authorities alleged several companies, including CurrenC WorldWide, were involved in a $150 million international scheme that lasted from 2000 to 2007. Bankey at that time was chief financial officer of CurrenC, according to his LinkedIn profile.

In the scheme, the companies helped illegal gambling websites disguise credit card transactions that otherwise would have been declined in the United States, according to the Justice Department. The initial 34 felony charges carried a maximum prison sentence of over 70 years.

Bankey and at least three people's sentences were significantly reduced. Bankey, according to court documents, plead guilty to one misdemeanor in 2012. The three other people's sentences were reduced to one year of probation, Deseret News reported in 2010.
