Woman accused of killing man inside Plaza Hotel

Not long before the clock brought Christmas to Las Vegas, police were left investigating the shooting death of a man inside a downtown hotel room, according to Metro.

The room is inside the Plaza Hotel and Casino, 1 Main St., Metro said Friday morning. First responders were dispatched there at 10:13 p.m. Thursday night.

Police allege a woman shot the man and that the slaying is domestic-violence related, Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said. A child was present when gunfire erupted.

Maria Escalante, 34, city of residence unknown, was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center where she faces a murder charge and one count of child neglect and endangerment, detention center logs show.

Details on the arrest and the circumstances of the man's death were not immediately available Friday morning.

Metro logs dating back to 2012 show one previous homicide investigation in their jurisdiction during the Christmas holiday.

Two apartment residents fired at home invaders on Dec. 24, 2012, fatally wounding Maurice Robert Howard, 35, of Los Angeles, Metro said then.

Howard and three other people forced their way into the apartment at 2901 N. Rainbow Blvd, police said. The robbers were fleeing when two apartment residents retrieved guns and shot at them in the parking lot.
