Woman critical after being shot in fit of road rage, police say
February 13, 2015 - 8:47 pm
A man whose wife was shot during what Las Vegas police called a road rage incident says the family does “not know if she’s going to survive.”
The woman, identified as Tammy Meyers, 44, is at University Medical Center in critical condition and suffering from at least one gunshot wound, Robert Meyers told the Review-Journal on Friday afternoon.
“It doesn’t look good at this time,” Robert Meyers, 49, said.
The Meyers’ son, who was not identified, returned fire, but it wasn’t clear if anyone else was hit, according to Robert Meyers.
Tammy Meyers on Thursday night was teaching her teen daughter how to drive in a parking lot near the family’s home near Cimarron Road and Alta Drive, Las Vegas police said.
On their way home about 11:20 p.m. Thursday, Tammy Meyers and someone in a silver compact car got in an altercation in front of the family’s house in the 7900 block of Mt. Shasta Circle, police said.
When the woman pulled over in front of the house, someone in the other vehicle fired shots, police said.
Robert Meyers said that it began after his wife’s vehicle and another car were in a crash when she was driving home from Robert Johnson Middle School, near the intersection of Alta and South Buffalo drives, about half a mile from where the shooting happened. She was teaching her daughter how to parallel park.
When his wife pulled over after the crash, Robert Meyers said, there was some sort of confrontation and at least one of the three people from the other car threatened her.
That is when she felt threatened, got inside her vehicle and began driving home, the husband said.
The other car began following the Meyers’ vehicle, he said. When they arrived in front of the house, Tammy Meyers told her daughter to go inside to get her brother.
The son, who is over 18, went outside and witnessed the shooting, his father said. That’s when the son, who was armed, returned fire.
The gun belonged to the son, Robert Meyers said. It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone else was hurt.
Police described the other vehicle as a silver compact car. They could not provide a description of the shooter.
Robert Meyers said that the car should have damage to its side from the crash.
No arrest has been made.
