Historic pre-World War II Lake Tahoe mansion sells for $10M
TRUCKEE, Calif. — A lakefront mansion built by a family who played a key role in the history of boating at Lake Tahoe before World War II has sold for $10 million.
The Sierra Sun reported Wednesday the 6-bedroom, 6.5-bath home on Lake Tahoe’s west shore sits on 1.7 acres (0.7 hectares) of landscaped grounds with 160 feet (48 meters) of lake frontage, two double-boathouses, a pier and private harbor.
The name of the purchaser wasn’t disclosed.
Built southwest of Tahoe City, California, in 1936, it originally was owned by the family of Bert C. Scott, who co-founded the Hall-Scott Engine Co. in Berkeley, California, in 1910.
The company was a leading manufacturer of water-cooled aircraft engines before World War I and produced axles for Ford’s Model T through the mid-1920s. It also built industrial engines for fire engines, tractors and boats.
