Inmate serving life sentence dies in Northern Nevada facility

A 72-year-old inmate died at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center's Regional Medical Facility on Tuesday.

Sherman Meyer had been incarcerated with the Nevada Department of Corrections since Sept. 23, 1987. Medical examiners from the Carson City Sheriff's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine what caused Meyer's death, the department said.

Meyer was sentenced to two consecutive 15-year sentences and a sentence of life without parole from Clark County for robbery with a deadly weapon, deadly weapon enhancement and first-degree murder, respectively.

The department said it has notified Meyer's emergency contact, but couldn't locate his next of kin. The department asks anyone with information on Meyer's next of kin to contact the department, but did not include a phone number to do so. The department later asked that people email them at pio@doc.nv.gov.
