Man gets probation in Mesquite motel coercion case

A 34-year-old man who kept his ex-girlfriend against her will at a Mesquite motel was sentenced Monday to five years probation.
District Judge Kenneth Cory ordered Jason Greniger to serve probation on a suspended sentence of 19 months to 5 years in prison.
Greniger, of Minnesota, pleaded guilty in April to felony coercion after authorities said he abused Sheena Herschbach in order to prevent her from leaving the motel for six months.
In January, Herschbach said the two worked as housekeepers at a Mesquite motel before stopping at another to manage the property. Herschbach said Greniger watched her constantly and he would hit her if he felt she stepped out of line. She said she didn’t believe she had a chance to escape.
Prosecutors ultimately dropped a kidnapping charge against Greniger, who also was wanted in his home state on a warrant for felony child punishment.
