Both sides in taxi drivers strike dial up pressure

A day after a mediation session went nowhere, both sides in the taxi drivers strike ratcheted up the pressure amid indications that another cab company also faces labor difficulties. Yellow Checker Star Transportation’s chief operating officer said the company, with the second-largest fleet in Las Vegas, would take a couple of days to identify drivers who walked out and replace them.

Nine southwest elementary schools face boundary changes

About 460 students will be switching elementary schools this fall because of redrawn boundaries for nine southwest campuses. The rezoning will shuffle some students among Batterman, Bendorf, Bryan, Hayes, Hill, Kim, Ries, Roger and Wiener elementary schools. Forbuss, Reedom and Wright will be switching to year-round schedules to alleviate crowding.
