Coroner’s office identifies wrong-way driver killed in U.S. 95 crash
The man killed after driving the wrong direction on U.S. Highway 95 and colliding with another vehicle Tuesday morning has been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office as Jose Edward Gonzalez, 30, of Riverside, Calif.
According to Nevada Highway Patrol, witnesses saw Gonzalez’s black Fiat traveling south in the northbound lanes of U.S. 95 near Wagon Wheel Drive about 2:30 a.m. They attempted to signal the driver to turn around, but to no avail.
After traveling the wrong way for at least seven miles, Gonzalez collided head-on with a blue Mazda traveling north near Auto Show Drive.
Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mazda was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition.
