13 facts you probably didn’t know about hurricanes — VIDEO

The Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1, but it might have fewer storms than normal for the third year running — thanks in part to El Niño, the warming of water in the equatorial Pacific, which increases strong wind shear in the Atlantic.

The Atlantic season will likely offer six to 11 named storms, forecasters with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center said Wednesday.

Three to six of them could become hurricanes, the center predicted.
