Cloudy skies and rain possible for Las Vegas Valley
The Las Vegas Valley can expect cloudy skies paired with a 60 percent chance of rain Thursday, the National Weather Service said.
As much as one-third of an inch of rain could fall in the valley Thursday, said meteorologist John Salmen.
Rain also is in the forecast for Friday and Saturday, with a 50 percent chance on Friday rising to 60 percent on Saturday. The likeliness of showers will drop to 20 percent by Sunday, Salmen said.
High temperatures should reach 54 degrees on Thursday, 56 degrees Friday, 53 degrees Saturday and 49 degrees on Sunday.
Christmas weekend also calls for up to 12 inches of snow above 9,000 feet in elevation on Mount Charleston and the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, the weather service said.
“The Spring Mountains are a tremendous natural resource,” said Clark County Commissioner Larry Brown in a statement. “But when there is snow on the ground, the influx of visitors can create significant hazards.”
Snow-play areas and parking on Mount Charleston reach capacity quickly on high-visitation days, according to the Mount Charleston Winter Alliance. Visitors should only sled in areas with more than 12 inches of snow and avoid dangerous objects like rocks and trees, said the alliance.
