Isolated thunderstorms and showers in the valley this weekend

An overcast, rainy weekend is ahead for the Las Vegas Valley.

Saturday will see rain showers “off and on pretty much all day,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Barry Pierce. That’s because officials are expecting a 60 percent chance of rain along with a high of 69 and a low of 59.

Isolated thunderstorms are expected too, he said, which means some snow could fall on Mount Charleston too. Staff at the visitors center said there’s already a light dusting of snow in the Lee Canyon area and Lee Meadow — enough to throw around a few snowballs, but not deep enough for sledding.

Saturday’s rain will linger into the early hours of Sunday before the chance of precipitation drops to about 30 percent, Pierce said. But he added the valley would still be mostly cloudy with an expected high of 76 and low of 57.

Officials said Thursday saw a record 0.24 inches of rainfall McCarran International Airport, breaking the 0.09-inch record from April 28, 1952. The North Las Vegas Airport also saw 0.24 inches of rainfall, and another 0.44 inches of rainfall was recorded at the National Weather Service office, located on Dean Martin Drive.

The cool, wet weather won’t last long — Pierce said Monday will be dry, with no chance of rain, and warm, with an expected high of 80 degrees. Tuesday’s high will then jump to 87 degrees, and by midweek, highs could be in the 90s.
