Rain, high winds moving into Las Vegas Valley

Rain and a wind advisory are expected for the Las Vegas Valley before the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday was mostly cloudy with some scattered precipitation, according to meteorologist Reid Wolcott. The valley saw a high of 70 degrees with light winds.

A wind advisory will be in effect from 4 a.m. to midnight Friday, according to the weather service. Winds will be between 25 and 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. A 40 percent chance of rain and a high of 64 degrees are expected, the weather service said.

The weekend will be dry and mostly sunny, but temperatures will drop as the storm moves out. Saturday’s forecast has a high of 48 degrees, which is about 8 degrees below normal, according to Wolcott.

Clark County School District’s winter break starts this weekend, and students often go to Mount Charleston for opportunities to play in the snow, according to Clark County officials. This weekend’s forecast calls for rain mixed with snow with minimal accumulation.

Not enough snow has fallen on the ground to support snow activities, and the approaching storm is not expected to produce enough snow, according to Clark County.

However, the Lee Canyon ski and snowboard area has been making snow on its own and has an intermediate ski run and the bunny hill open.

Sunday and Monday will have highs of 50 and 53 degrees, respectively.
