Snow leaves Las Vegas, but not the cold

Friday was the "last chance" for Las Vegans to see snow flurries this weekend, despite temperatures that are quickly dropping.

"We're going to struggle to get above 50 degrees until we get into next week," said Reid Wolcott, National Weather Service meteorologist.

In the northwest valley Friday morning, some people saw snow flutter down just after midnight, posting on social media about a "white Christmas." Others saw flurries again around 8:30 p.m.

But with a low chance of precipitation in the next few days, that was it, Wolcott said. Instead, it'll be windy.

The morning low Friday was 37, and the predicted low on Saturday is freezing, followed by an even chillier 27 degrees Sunday morning.

The high all weekend will settle in the mid-40s, and Las Vegas can expect gusts of about 40 mph Saturday throughout the valley, Wolcott said. But it'll be even windier in the region's outskirts.

"For people heading south, traveling home down the Colorado River Valley — by Laughlin and Bullhead City — we're expecting gusts up to 60 mph," Wolcott said. "So, not very much fun to drive in that."

Same goes for people heading toward California, "the second windiest region," where gusts will reach about 50 mph, he said.

Wolcott said the gusts should should quickly calm down Sunday.
