Thunderstorms will be back for the weekend in Las Vegas Valley

Monsoon season has arrived and more thunderstorms are in the weekend’s forecast.

Chances for thunderstorms are very slight Wednesday and Thursday, and valley temperatures will remain high.

Wednesday will see a high near 109 degrees and a low near 86 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday’s forecast high is 107 degrees and will be mostly sunny, according to meteorologist John Adair.

“We are in monsoon season now,” he said. “And the main threat while in monsoon season is thunderstorms.”

Chances of thunderstorms and heavy rain increase to 30 percent Friday as moisture from northern Mexico and Arizona moves toward Las Vegas, according to the weather service. Friday’s high will be 104 degrees.

There is always a concern of wind with thunderstorms, Adair said.

“These storms are very spontaneous and fast-paced as we saw yesterday,” he said.

Saturday will see a high near 100 degrees and 20 percent chance of thunderstorms, according to the weather service.

Sunday will be about 105 degrees, Adair said.
