Crusaders, Eagles standouts claim Heisman

Faith Lutheran track athlete Ryan Bartholomew and Boulder City softball, volleyball and basketball standout Paxton Fleming have been named state winners of the Wendy’s High School Heisman.

Both seniors are now in the running for the national award, which will be announced Dec. 11 in New York. Last year’s male national award went to The Meadows football and basketball player Brett Leibowitz.

The award honors high school seniors who excel in academics, athletics and community leadership.

Bartholomew, a distance runner, won the Class 3A 800-meter run state title in 1:59.5 last year, and was 17th in the 3A state cross country meet in 19:10 on a 3.1-mile course.

Fleming, a catcher, hit .642 with 44 RBIs to lead Boulder City’s softball team to a 32-5 record last season.

She also plays setter for the Eagles’ volleyball team, which faces Yerington in a 3A state semifinal Friday, and is a guard in basketball.
