HEAD OF THE CLASS: Arnold helps Skyhawks start strong

BOYS BASKETBALL

Matt Arnold

Silverado

The senior swingman had 19 points and 14 rebounds, including 13 points in the fourth quarter, as the Skyhawks rallied for a 73-69 win over Shadow Ridge. Silverado trailed by 23 with three minutes to go in the third quarter. Arnold also had 16 points and 12 rebounds in a 61-56 win over Del Sol for the Skyhawks, who are off to a 5-2 start after going 1-23 last season.

The senior guard averaged 19.3 points in leading the Crusaders to four victories, including three in the High Sierra Winter Challenge in Reno.

Centennial

The senior had three interceptions, returning two for touchdowns, to lead the Bulldogs to the championship of the Lady Bulldog Invitational.

Bishop Gorman

The junior running back rushed for 264 yards and three touchdowns as the Gaels beat Liberty 62-21 in the Division I state title game, running Gorman's streak to seven consecutive championships.

WRESTLING

Cimarron-Memorial

The senior was 10-0 for the week, including a 7-0 record and 132-pound championship at the Pat Kenny Invitational in Holbrook, Ariz. Saavedra helped the Spartans to the team title in the 15-team tournament.

HEAD OF THE CLASS

ARBOR VIEW — Flag football player Brooke Rauh had a total of 36 tackles in five games. Boys bowler Marco Ramirez-Buckles had a 593 series, including a 211 game, in a 9-0 victory over Cimarron-Memorial.

BONANZA — Boys basketball player Jamal Logan averaged 22 points, five rebounds and four steals over three games. Flag football player Miriam Bastida had 10 tackles and a returned an interception for a touchdown in a 24-19 victory over Tech.

BOULDER CITY — Flag football player Oshanna Remy had a total of 14 catches for 239 yards, rushed for a total of 44 yards and recorded 12 tackles in wins over Cheyenne and Mojave.

CHAPARRAL — Boys basketball player Robin Rosales averaged six assists and made the all-tournament team at the Legacy Tip-Off Classic.

DESERT OASIS — Boys basketball player Aamondae Coleman had 27 points and 11 rebounds in a 78-72 victory over Sierra Vista, and scored 30 points in a loss to Bishop Gorman. Girls basketball player Mikala Kirby averaged 17 points in leading the Diamondbacks to wins over Sierra Vista and Durango.

FAITH LUTHERAN — Boys basketball player Zach Friel averaged 15 points and 6.3 rebounds in four games.

GREEN VALLEY — Girls basketball player Brooke Haney averaged 14 points over four games. Boys basketball player Xavier Jarvis averaged 28.4 points in leading the Gators to a 4-1 mark.

MOJAVE — Wrestler Christian Collins went 8-0 with five pins at 195 pounds at the Charger Duals. Flag football player Leilani Limtiaco improved her season totals to six receiving touchdowns, two rushing TDs and seven interceptions.

PALO VERDE — Flag football player Cydnee Bush rushed for a total of 232 yards and two touchdowns and had two TD receptions in wins over Desert Oasis and Cheyenne. Boys basketball player Taylor Miller averaged 29 points over five games at the Legacy Tip-Off Classic.

RANCHO — Boys basketball player Lamont Traylor averaged 15.5 points and 11.2 rebounds over six games and had 31 points and 16 rebounds in a 70-59 win over Legacy.

QUEST ACADMEY — Boys basketball player Christopher Warren averaged 25 points in losses to Word of Life and Liberty Baptist.

SIERRA VISTA — Flag football player Courtney O'Neal scored three touchdowns in a 20-18 victory over Chaparral. Boys basketball player Maka Ellis had a total of 46 points in two games.
