BASEBALL: Diamondbacks take tourney title

Caeden Marin was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Desert Oasis rallied for a 9-3 victory over Bullard (Calif.) in the 6A Division championship game at the Lions Tournament in San Diego on Thursday.

Chris Van Kuren went 4-for-4, and Chae Adams drove in three runs for the Diamondbacks, who fell behind after allowing two runs in the top of the first.

Reliever Jake Lucas came on in the second and allowed one run on five hits in six innings to get the win.

Kyle Fuentes went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Bryson Stott drove in two runs for Desert Oasis, which scored three runs in the second and three in the third to take control.

Greg Weaver was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Knights.

Desert Oasis 10, La Jolla (Calif.) 3 — At San Diego, Van Kuren threw a five-hitter and went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Diamondbacks over the Vikings in the 6A Division semifinals of the Lions Tournament.

Van Kuren struck out three with one walk.

Bryson Stott was 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs, and Nolan Kingham and Fuentes each added a single, a double and two RBIs for the Diamondbacks.

Green Valley 9, Madison (Calif.) 1 — At San Diego, Jarod Penniman was 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs and an RBI to help the Gators beat the Warhawks in the Lions Tournament.

Blake Inouye was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and A.J. Amelburu was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs for Green Valley, which scored six runs in the fifth inning.

Gavin Morley was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and teammate Drake Maningo went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Gators.

Silverado 15, Ramona (Calif.) 0 — At Ramona, Calif., Dillon Johnson went 2-for-5 with two doubles, five RBIs and three runs as the Skyhawks routed the Bulldogs in the Lions Tournament.

Vincent Taormina, James Skelly and Alex Grafiada each had three hits for Silverado, which had 20 hits.

Mitchell Ballard and Chandler Whitehead combined on a four-hitter.

Granite Hills (Calif.) 5, Coronado 1 — At El Cajon, Calif., Daniel Vasquez and Michael Diffley combined on a five-hitter as the Eagles downed the Cougars in the Lions Tournament.

Granite Hills scored three runs in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie.
